The Strategic System Planning team in the Transport Services Group provides strategic, spatial, and system planning expertise to shape the land transport system and Waka Kotahi's work so the land transport system can deliver on government's long-term outcomes.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are looking for a people leader who has the ability and vision to drive the development of the long-term understanding (10-30 year) of the land transport system' needs. Through collaborative partnerships both internally and externally, you will co-lead the effective development and realisation of Waka Kotahi's 30-year Plan.
You will understand long-term national and system-level issues and opportunities in the NZ land transport system, clarify the focus areas and the pace and scale of change needed to deliver on the government's long-term outcomes.
You will explore innovative ways of meeting the changing needs of our communities in the future, enabling us to realise the benefits and outcomes being sought through system optimisation and demand management.

The Manager, Long-term System Planning will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
- Effective people leadership, development, and management
- Ability to effectively influence and drive change
- Experience in strategy development
- Experience in developing and managing strong and enduring working relationships with stakeholder and partners
- Experience translating strategy into actionable outputs
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
