At the Waka Kotahi we work to keep people safe on the road. The Safer Vehicles team regulates the vehicle certification sector to improve safety and reduce the risk of harm by ensuring compliance.
A great opportunity to use your investigative/auditing skills in a varied and stimulating role. As one of our team of Certification Officers and Investigators you will conduct investigations into non-compliance within the vehicle inspection and certification sector. Working closely with your team and technical experts look into a provider's background and coordinate moderate to complex investigations of potential non-compliance or any safety issues.
We are looking for an investigation professional someone who is an excellent communicator and enjoys thinking critically to analyse data in order to make fair and informed decisions.
This role involves getting out and about on to sites across the Auckland-Northland region, so you will be comfortable driving and have a full clean licence.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Significant regulatory compliance experience
- Proven experience in modern investigative techniques
- A high degree of confidence in the use of technology
- A collaborative, flexible and fair approach
- Ability to analyse data to identify areas of likely non-compliance
- Strong ability to translate technical information and produce articulate reports
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to think logically
- Experience in a regulatory safety or law enforcement field is desirable
- A keen interest in cars or the transport sector would also be beneficial

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
