Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
As the Principal Advisor, Māori, you will be supporting The New Zealand Upgrade Programme (NZUP). This programme of work reflects the Government's $6.8 billion investment across road, rail, public transport and walking and cycling infrastructure. We have this opportunity to upgrade the transport infrastructure in our six main growth areas - Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Canterbury and Queenstown.
In this role, it will be your job to to ensure Māori across the country are actively engaged in NZUP and its outcomes. This role will develop NZUP practices to engage effectively with Māori in ways that deliver improved environmental, cultural, economic and social outcomes. You will have an excellent understanding of Te Ao Māori and be a strong communicator that can build strong relationships with the project teams to be able to influence outcomes.
Ko koe tēnei | About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Strong knowledge of Te reo Māori me ona tikanga.
- Experience working collaboratively with Māori/mana whenua that led to good outcomes.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in the work of Waka Kotahi
- Able to lead cultural events and is proficient with mihi, whaikōrero, pōwhiri tikanga.
- Knowledge of infrastructure projects
