Senior Manager System Planning - Strategy, Policy and Planning


  • Significant leadership role in strategic planning for the integration of transport systems and land use
  • Lead regional and national planning processes
  • Can be based in one of the following locations; Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch

The aim of the Strategy Policy & Planning group is to set the long-term direction and build detailed plans for the transport system, and then to support delivery with an enabling policy environment and drive and monitor delivery across the business.

As Senior Manager System Planning you will shape the long term direction and planning that will deliver the optimum transport system for customers.  Developing clear well-articulated long term transport system plans along with mid-term strategies for the system will be a clear focus for you.

This is a strategic Leadership role with 8 direct reports where you will lead and provide oversight as your team works with you and across the business to long term goals (up to 30 year horizon).

To be successful here and in this role you will bring:

  • Extensive leadership experience in strategic planning for the integration of transport system planning and land use, to deliver customer centric outcomes
  • Significant experience leading a team responsible for long term planning of complex programmes of work
  • Significant experience in a leadership role within the transport sector or similar industry
  • The ability to work in a collaborative environment and in multidisciplinary team environments
  • The ability to think broadly beyond current constructs and paradigms, and embrace innovation and change
  • The ability to provide leadership to stakeholder and transport partner forums
